I’m working some more with square shapes. I like the cushion shape of these new cabochons- faceted carnelian and some smaller smooth aqua chalcedony. I oxidized the setting on the chalcedony ring to help emphasize this shape. I love the orange color of the carnelian, very bright, but still reddish (like Etsy’s logo) and the calming aqua (not too bright) of the chalcedony. I’m also making some birthstone rings, inspired by the Etsy Metal August Challenge- peridot. My new favorite hammered pattern, a texture made of fine ridges, is combined with 5mm round faceted gemstones in these small rings. The ring shown is not peridot, but oro verde citrine, a yellow-green, also one of my favorite colors.
Working on these scroll work teardrops is like drawing with metal. I’ve been using argentium sterling silver, making each one of a kind, instead of following the same pattern each time. I’ve done scroll work with traditional sterling before, but I like using argentium sterling much better.
The smallest pendant is now available in my Etsy shop. It measures 1.5″ (the largest pendant is 2″.) These are large pendants, but because they’re so open, they’re subtle and delicate at the same time. I’ve finished five of these, and I’ll try to update this post with more pictures soon.
